What was the situation?
In 2008 one of the world’s leading retail and wholesale companies saw the need for additional investment into the training and development of its employees. With over 69,000 associates worldwide across 23 countries, the company’s key focus was to retain and develop quality employees.
They wanted to partner with a supplier to help support their long term strategy of investment in developing and retaining staff at all levels. Their focus was to ensure they were recognising, rewarding and retaining the key managers they had identified internally as potential future leaders; enhancing the critical conversation skills of the Executive Leadership Team and enhancing the corporate training calendar for all employees.
How did The Maura Fay Group contribute?
We developed a number of programs based on the company’s internal focus of retaining and developing their key team members.
We tailored a critical conversations program for the Executive Leadership Team to give them a strong framework to practise holding business critical conversations in a realistic and safe environment. We also designed one-day and two-day programs for those identified internally as ‘Emerging Leaders’ to encourage a learning journey of awareness, discovery, reflection and skill development across several key leadership competencies.
Following consultation and based on trends highlighted from the annual development plans, it was agreed a number of core communication workshops should be included in the corporate training calendar to be available to all staff.
We were selected for our ability to create proven embedded and sustained behaviour change, our capability to tailor the approach to the needs and demographics of the various roles and leadership levels and a thorough understanding of the organisations culture, values and growth strategy.
What were the results?
The key outcome from the training has been the improvement and development of a strong communication culture across all levels of the organisation. This has helped to improve relationships with stakeholders and customers both internally and externally. The senior managers have opened the communication channels with their teams, and these team members are feeling more encouraged to approach their managers and share ideas or concerns without fear of retribution.
We have successfully delivered the emerging leaders pathway and corporate calendar since 2008, both of which have, and continue to receive outstanding feedback from participants and managers.
The results are measured by the participant evaluations, anecdotal feedback from stakeholders and for the Emerging Leaders Pathway, via a pre and post pathway 360 degree survey at both a participant and team level.
Moving forward...
With an initial focus on both pathways and specialised programs, the corporate training calendar continues to offer all staff a wide range of high quality Maura Fay Group training solutions.
